South African Boerewors with Chakalaka

Description

A traditional South African dish featuring spicy boerewors sausages served with a flavorful chakalaka sauce.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 kg boerewors sausage
  • 1 can baked beans
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 carrots, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil


Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the onion and garlic, and sauté until translucent.
  3. Stir in the grated carrots, green bell pepper, and tomatoes. Cook for about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the baked beans, curry powder, and paprika. Season with salt and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. While the chakalaka simmers, grill or fry the boerewors until cooked through.
  6. Serve the boerewors hot with a generous spoonful of chakalaka on top.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add chopped green chilies to the chakalaka.
  • Serve with maize meal or bread for a complete meal.
