Description
Chanfana is a traditional Portuguese dish made with goat meat and red wine, popularly enjoyed during special occasions and family gatherings.
Ingredients

- 2 kg goat meat, cut into pieces
- 750 ml red wine
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 onions, chopped
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt to taste
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 carrot, sliced
Instructions
- In a large bowl, marinate the goat meat with red wine, garlic, onions, bay leaves, black pepper, paprika, and salt for at least 12 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 160°C (320°F).
- In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat and brown the marinated goat meat on all sides.
- Add any remaining marinade and carrot slices to the pot.
- Cover the pot with a lid and transfer it to the preheated oven.
- Cook for about 2-3 hours or until the meat is tender.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, allow the meat to marinate for 24 hours.
- Pair with crusty bread to soak up the sauce.
