Description

Korean Galbi-Jjim, or braised short ribs, is a tender and flavorful dish made with beef short ribs, vegetables, and a sweet and savory sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds beef short ribs
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup sesame oil
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, sliced
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 green onion, chopped

Instructions

  1. Soak the beef short ribs in cold water for about 30 minutes to remove excess blood.
  2. In a large pot, add the soaked ribs, soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, onion, carrots, garlic, ginger, and water.
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cover. Cook for about 1.5 to 2 hours until the ribs are tender.
  4. Uncover and simmer for an additional 30 minutes to reduce the sauce.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onion.

Notes

  • For richer flavor, marinate the ribs in soy sauce and sugar overnight.
  • Serve with steamed rice for a complete meal.
  • Adjust the sweetness by modifying the sugar content to taste.
