Description

A classic British comfort food dish featuring sausages served with creamy mashed potatoes and onion gravy.


Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chicken stock
  • 1 pound sausages
  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the sausages until browned and cooked through. Remove and keep warm.
  3. In the same skillet, melt the butter and whisk in the flour to make a roux.
  4. Gradually add the chicken stock, whisking until the sauce is thickened.
  5. In a pot, boil the potatoes until tender, then mash with cream, milk, salt, and pepper.
  6. Serve the sausages over mashed potatoes and drizzle with onion gravy.

Notes

  • Feel free to use your favorite type of sausage for this recipe.
  • For a creamier mash, add more heavy cream.
