Description
This crispy fried calamari served with a tangy aioli makes for an irresistible appetizer.
Ingredients

- 1 pound calamari, cleaned and cut into rings
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine buttermilk, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add calamari and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
- In a separate bowl, place the flour. Dredge the marinated calamari in the flour.
- Fry the calamari in batches until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove and drain on paper towels.
- For the aioli, mix mayonnaise, lemon juice, garlic, Dijon mustard, and parsley in a bowl.
- Serve the fried calamari with the zingy aioli on the side.
Notes
- Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying to get a crispy texture.
- The aioli can be made a few hours in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
