Description

A delicious and comforting Egyptian dish made with spiced beef and wrapped in flaky phyllo pastry.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts
  • 1 package phyllo dough
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg, beaten


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the ground beef with onions and garlic over medium heat until browned.
  3. Add the spices and tomatoes, and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the pine nuts and remove from heat.
  5. Layer sheets of phyllo dough in a greased baking dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  6. Spoon the beef mixture onto the layered phyllo and fold the dough over to enclose the filling.
  7. Brush the top with the beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

  • Serve with a side salad for a complete meal.
  • Can be frozen before baking for later use.
