Description

A deliciously spiced chicken shawarma recipe that captures the flavors of Middle Eastern cuisine.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound chicken thighs, boneless and skinless
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 2 tortillas or pita bread
  • 1 cup lettuce, shredded
  • 1 cup tomatoes, diced
  • ½ cup cucumber, diced
  • ½ cup tahini or garlic sauce


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine olive oil, spices, lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade and mix well. Let marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best results.
  3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the marinated chicken for about 6-7 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
  5. Remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes, then slice into strips.
  6. Warm the tortillas or pita bread.
  7. Assemble the wraps by placing chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, and sauce onto the bread.
  8. Roll up and serve immediately.

Notes

  • This recipe can also be made with beef or lamb.
  • Serve with a side of Mediterranean salad for a complete meal.
  • Leftover chicken can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
