Description

A rich and flavorful beef cheek braise perfect for festive occasions.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef cheeks
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a large oven-safe pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the beef cheeks until browned on all sides.
  3. Remove beef cheeks and set them aside. In the same pot, add onions and carrots, cooking until softened.
  4. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  5. Stir in the beef broth, red wine, tomato paste, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
  6. Return beef cheeks to the pot and bring to a simmer.
  7. Cover and transfer to the preheated oven. Cook for 3-4 hours until the meat is tender.
  8. Remove from oven, allow to rest, then serve.

Notes

  • This dish can be made a day ahead; the flavors will develop overnight.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or crusty bread for a complete meal.
