Description

This traditional Hungarian Pörkölt is a rich and hearty stew that is perfect for a family meal.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef, cut into cubes
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until translucent.
  2. Add the garlic, paprika, and caraway seeds, and stir for about a minute.
  3. Add the beef cubes and brown on all sides.
  4. Add the bell pepper and tomatoes, and stir to combine.
  5. Pour in the beef broth, bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the meat is tender.
  6. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve hot.
